Kathleen Cunningham Design Pivots to Photography and Surface Design

After many years as a graphic designer and art director in the book industry and for nonprofit organizations, I am choosing to specialize in Surface Pattern Design and I’m happy to share my wonder and delight with you.

In the spring of 2013 I started making experimental photos with an iPad Mini and the kaleidoscope app that came with it. I was fascinated, enamored, and gob-smacked by the quality of the images. I wasn't sure if they were photos, patterns, important, trivial, or just weird, but I loved them. I got some wonderful feedback and direction from family and friends, and in 2020, I started working, in earnest, to take the photos to another level as surface patterns. My excitement and wonder at this transformation was one of the things that helped me make it through 2020, and now I'm happy to share these photos, patterns, and products with you.

This is my first blog post and for the rest of 2021 I will be posting each week to show you what I am up to, share what products have been produced and ask for your (hopefully constructive and kind) feedback.

This is all new to me, so there may be a few bumps along the way, but there will be some surprises too. Thanks for coming along for the ride.
